Separate the original, the app copy, and the export

A photo can exist in several places at once. The original may remain in the iPhone photo library or another archive. A working crop may be saved as a separate file. The app may store local profile information and may upload the selected photo to its backend so the profile can operate. An export is another copy created at a particular time. Treating these as distinct prevents accidental assumptions about what a single delete action can remove.

Before changing anything, locate the original and confirm that it opens outside the app. If the photo exists only in a chat or an old social post, save the best available source to a folder you control. Use a descriptive filename. An app export can be useful for records, but it should not be the only backup of the photograph.

Find LumaPet's Data control section

In LumaPet 1.0.4, open Settings and scroll to the section labeled Data control. This is the product surface for export and deletion requests. The exact screen is intentionally kept inside the app rather than hidden behind an external support process. Read the current labels before confirming an action, especially if a later version changes the wording or separates local and uploaded data more explicitly.

Use Export pet data when you want a record before clearing a profile or changing devices. Save the result somewhere you can find it and verify that the file opens. An export reflects the data available at the time of the request. It is not a continuous synchronization service and it does not replace your original photo archive.

Understand what deletion is intended to do

Delete all pet data clears the pet profile from the device and requests deletion of uploaded data. A deletion request does not remove copies you independently saved, exports you downloaded, or files stored in the iPhone photo library. It also cannot remove a photo from another person's device or from an unrelated backup service. Review those locations separately if your goal is a broader cleanup.

Do not assume that uninstalling any app is identical to using its in-app deletion control. Uninstalling removes the application and its local container from the device, but a service may need an authenticated or app-specific request to address backend data. Use the provided Data control path first when possible, then keep any confirmation or result that the product provides.

Make the export useful

After requesting an export, store it beside a short note that includes the date, app version, and purpose. Open every included file rather than assuming a completed download is readable. If the export contains structured data, keep the original format as well as any human-readable copy you create. Avoid editing the only exported copy.

Use ordinary backup practices: one copy on the device is convenient, a second copy in a controlled backup location improves resilience, and a clear filename reduces confusion. Do not email sensitive files unnecessarily or upload them to a public sharing surface. Decide where the export belongs based on the information it contains, not merely on file size.

Review photo handling before using the app

The selected photo may be uploaded to LumaPet's backend so the pet profile and Together Space can operate. This is different from the free Photo Fit Check, where the preview is processed in the browser. The distinction is why LumaPet does not describe every photo interaction as device-only or completely private. Concrete handling language is more useful than an absolute slogan.

Use only media you own or have permission to use. If another person supplied the image, confirm whether storing it in the app is acceptable. Deleting your LumaPet profile does not change the rights associated with the original. Media permission and data control are related responsibilities, but they are not the same action.

Use a deliberate sequence

1. Confirm the original photo exists outside LumaPet.
2. Open Settings and locate Data control.
3. Request an export and verify the result if you need a record.
4. Use Delete all pet data when you are ready to clear the profile and request backend deletion.
5. Review independent copies, downloads, and backups separately.
